James Smith is the co-founder and CEO of Off Post Realty, a Lawton-based brokerage he launched alongside his wife, Jana, who serves as the firm's managing broker. James served on active duty in the U.S. Army from 2018 to 2025. That chapter shapes how the brokerage operates today. Off Post exists to serve the families who move in and out of this community on orders, as well as the neighbors who've been here all along. A licensed Oklahoma real estate associate and a licensed mortgage loan originator, James works both sides of a transaction, helping clients find the right property and helping them understand the financing that makes it possible. That dual perspective is uncommon in the Lawton market. It means fewer surprises, clearer numbers, and a realistic picture of what a deal actually looks like before anyone signs.
James and Jana also maintain an extensive investment real estate portfolio of their own, and they've done just about every strategy in the book: flips, renovations, long-term rentals, and everything in between. More than the transactions themselves, James is passionate about what real estate makes possible. It's the freedom and quality of life it affords homeowners building equity, investors building income, and the agents and professionals who make a career out of it. Property management is where that passion runs deepest. He believes a rental should come with an attentive, compassionate, and reliable experience for the tenant, not just a lease and a phone number nobody answers. That hands-on experience is the difference between advice that sounds good and advice that holds up once the contractor bids come in.
Outside of work, James is into physical fitness of all kinds, the outdoors, adventure travel, chess, and time with friends and family. He grew up primarily in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and moved around the country roughly a dozen times for Army assignments and colleges before he and Jana settled in Lawton in 2022. That's part of why helping people land somewhere and put down roots means as much to him as it does. Today they're raising their first son, Merit James Smith, born in May of 2026, in the same community they serve. Whether you're buying your first home near Fort Sill, selling ahead of a PCS, or building a rental portfolio from scratch, he's glad to talk it through.
